How to use it

Frequently asked questions
Why is 1080 pixels wide the number that matters?
Instagram serves feed images at 1080 px wide. Supplying exactly that avoids the app downscaling and re-compressing your photo, which is where most of the visible quality loss happens.
Which shape gets the most screen space in the feed?
The 4:5 portrait, 1080 × 1350 — it's the tallest crop the feed allows, so it occupies more of a phone screen than a square or landscape post.
What's the difference between Crop and Fit?
Crop takes the largest centred region with the right aspect ratio and fills the frame, so edges are trimmed. Fit scales the whole image down until it sits inside the frame, keeping everything visible.
Will Instagram still compress my image?
It re-encodes uploads regardless, but starting at the exact display size means only one compression pass instead of a resize plus a compression.
