Why resize before sending when WhatsApp compresses anyway?
WhatsApp downsizes large photos and then compresses them. Sending an already-correctly-sized image skips the downscale step, so only one lossy pass is applied and the picture stays cleaner.

Status is a full-screen 9:16 frame — 1080 × 1920 covers current phone screens without the app having to scale it up or down.
Why is the profile picture preset only 500 × 500?
Profile photos are displayed as a small circle and WhatsApp stores them at modest resolution. A 500 px square is plenty and keeps the upload quick on a mobile connection.
Can I stop WhatsApp compressing entirely?
