How to use it

  3. 3In target mode the encoder is run repeatedly at different quality values and the real output is measured each time until it fits — no estimating.

Frequently asked questions

How does the target-KB mode actually work?

It encodes the image, measures the resulting bytes, and adjusts the JPEG quality in a binary search until the file lands under your target. The size you see is the size of the file you download.

What target size should I use for an upload form?

Forms that cap at 200 KB or 500 KB are common for ID and application photos — enter that number directly. The minimum accepted target is 5 KB.

Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?

Only if you enter matching numbers. Type both width and height yourself; mismatched values will stretch the photo.

Is enlarging a small JPG worth it?

Rarely. Scaling up interpolates new pixels and exaggerates existing JPEG artefacts — you get a bigger file, not more detail.
